Cockleshell Heroes Memorial at Eastney, Southsea

At 1100hrs on Sunday 15thth April, 2018 there will be the fourth biennial commemorative service at the Cockleshell Heroes Memorial at Eastney, Southsea.  The service will be attended by Colonel John Read RM, representing the DCGRM, and the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth.   All serving and former Royal Marines, RMA and SBSA members, Frankton Families, RM Cadets are welcome to attend, the more the better. 

The service, which will last about 30 minutes, will include a 2 minute silence, Last Post and Reveille and the laying of wreaths.  Those attending will be offered drinks and a cold buffet at the RMA Portsmouth clubhouse, located in what used to be the sports pavilion on the playing fields behind the old Officers Mess/Corps Museum.  There will be a £5 charge for the buffet. 

Dress for RMA members is suit or blazer, beret and medals.  Serving Corps members, lovat uniform, white or cloth belt, medals optional. The event is being organised by the Southern Region of the RMA (Guildford, Hanworth, Poole & District, Portsmouth, Reading, Windsor & District Branches).  All Branches attending are invited to parade their standards.  Parking available on the Museum car park, or on the seafront parking bays.  So that we know the numbers for catering, can Branch Secretaries please notify numbers attending to Patrick Hopper, Secretary of the Southern Region, by e-mail or phone: or 023 80428328.  

Branch Secretaries are asked to notify Patrick Hopper by 15th March, please, of 1) if their standard is being paraded and 2) number of members attending.   If you are an RMA HQ Roll member, or a serving member of the Corps, please contact Patrick Hopper direct.  We need to know by 15 March latest, please.
