Guide For Contributors
Copy for The Globe & Laurel should be typed, with margins of about 1in, in normal upper and lower case lettering, NOT IN BLOCK CAPITALS. If using a word processor use the best quality type the printer can produce, to ensure that the text can be easily scanned. Articles may be sent as an email to: royalsmag@btconnect.com or for NavyNet users: Fleet DRM-globe1. Please ensure that the text is either sent as a ‘Word’ attachment or in the main body of the email message. Please do not send text in any other formats. Photographs may be forwarded as attachments to your email. However, please ensure that they have been saved in the highest quality JPEG or TIFF format. Do not mix pictures and text within the same attachment - do not embed pictures in ‘Word’ documents – they cannot be reproduced for publication. Please avoid excessive use of abbreviations. If an abbreviation is unlikely to be known by most readers, serving or retired, the words should be written in full initially, followed by the abbreviation, in brackets. After that the abbreviation may be used on its own. Photographs may be black & white or colour prints or digital images. A picture that is considered suitable as a front or back cover should be a large colour print or a large resolution digital image, preferably the size of the cover (A4). Do not send negatives (we do not have developing/printing facilities) or digitally reproduced pictures, which cannot be scanned because of their dot pattern – please send a copy of the original digital image file. Photographs should be captioned on the back (preferably using a stick-on label - do not write on the back of the print). Initials should be included, with names and ranks of those shown receiving decorations, awards, trophies etc. Please pack photographs so that wet ink or other substances do not rub off on the surface; pack them face to face, back to back and include some stiff backing. Photographs will be returned if requested, otherwise they are passed on to the Corps Museum Photographic Library, who will select photographs considered to be of historic interest for retention. Finally - please forward your material in by the deadline: the first working day of every odd-numbered month (January, March, May, July, September) and, for the November/December issue, the last Monday in October (In order to allow time for the journal to be despatched prior to Christmas Leave).
